    • Hi Sarah, the Leaving Certificate is a two year cycle and students are usually between 17-18 years old sitting their final exam in June. Would you have a copy of your exam? It would be interesting to compare. Thank you for your question.

      • In Tasmania, public (government) high schools only go to Grade 10 (aged 16). I’m a Home Ec teacher in a high school but there isn’t an external exam. All internal, and the teachers have a couple of moderation meetings each year. Students then go to College (aged 17 -18) where they can choose Food Studies or other more skills-based cooking and/or textiles subjects. I don’t have any exam papers, sorry. There are just starting to be moves to start making our high schools go to Year 12…as they do on the mainland (of Australia). And in private schools too here.
I asked because the exam covered some in depth content that we don’t cover at high school, but that kind of thing would get covered in the Food Studies subject at College. I think Ireland might still have more of a focus on Family Studies too (that seems to have dropped off here in the last decade or two!).
I’ll keep you in mind if I come across any exams or similar.
